First scientific – expert conference „Kopački rit past, present, future” was held in the Tikveš complex, on September 27 2012. The aim of the conference was to bring together researchers from various scientific disciplines that will present their achievements or announce planned research activities and to involve other stakeholders and users of space in wider area of Kopački rit Nature Park. In addition to the topics from biodiversity, ecology and environment, multidisciplinary approach is promoted with topics including fields of agriculture, education, history, linguistics, tourism and sustainable development. Abstracts of each Symposium are published in the Book of Abstracts. Sustainability of the Symposium is confirmed by constant interest of the scientific and expert community, public institutions active in nature protection, environment and health, expert associations and federations, as well as the general public to participate and present researches and project activities. The participation of the foreign lecturers is promoting the Symposium and Kopački rit Nature Park beyond the borders of Republic of Croatia.

Organizers of the Symposium are: Public Institution “Kopački rit” Nature Park, Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, Faculty of Education, Department of Biology – Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Department of Chemistry – Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, DANUBEPARKS (Network of Protected Areas on the Danube River), B.EN.A. (Balkan Environmental Association), Public Institution “Agency for Management of Protected Natural Values ​​in the Osijek-Baranja County” and Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health Zagreb.
