13th International Symposium Kopački Rit Past, Present, Future 2024

It is our pleasure to greet all of you dear participants and distinguished guests of the 13th International Symposium Kopački Rit: Past, Present, Future 2024.

The Symposium was organized by: Public institution Nature Park Kopački rit, Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Economics in Osijek, Faculty of Law Osijek and Green Legal Clinic, Faculty of Kinesiology Osijek, Department of Biology, Alumni of the Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, which are member units of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Public Institution Agency for Management of Protected Natural Values in Osijek-Baranja County, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, Teaching Institute of Public Health for the Osijek-Baranja County and Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute.

International support for the organization of the symposium was provided by three international associations: The Danube River Network of Protected Areas (DANUBEPARKS), The Balkan Environmental Association (B.EN.A.) and The International Association of Environmental Scientists and Professionals (IAESP).

The special feature of this year’s symposium is connection with UNESCO’s five-country Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Mura – Drava – Danube (Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia), declared on 15 September 2021. Two meetings are held simultaneously with the symposium: the 4th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Biosphere Reserve and the 3rd meeting of the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project consortium.

Programme of the two-day symposium, 2 and 3 October 2024, delivers 79 presentations, of which 26 oral and 53 poster presentations.

Although the symposium is, according to its title, focused on biodiversity, ecology and conservation of Nature Park Kopački rit, it promotes a broader multidisciplinary approach with topics from different geographical areas. We are very pleased that students and young researchers, as well as scientists and experts from abroad, contribute significantly to the work of the symposium.

We are grateful to the faithful sponsors of the symposium: The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Osijek-Baranja County, City of Osijek and Belje Plus Ltd. company, and to our partner The Croatian National Tourist Board, who all recognized the importance and benefits of this symposium for the social community.
